چکیده

In a previous communication (1) it was reported that an L-a-hydroxy aliphatic acid was required as a cofactor for the limited oxidation of palmitic acid by a soluble cytoplasmic protein fract, ion obtained by precipitation with ammonium sulfate from extracts of cotyledons of germinating peanuts. This fraction was designated supernatant enzyme. No additional cofactors were required, and activity was limited to the long chain saturated fatty acids. This paper will present results of experiments which indicate that a specific long chain saturated fatty acid peroxidase is responsible for the partial oxidation of palmitic acid to carbon dioxide. L-or-Hydroxy aliphatic acid serves as a substrate for trace concentrations of glycolic acid oxidase which, in oxidizing the substrate, generates HzOz. HzOz, in turn, participates in the peroxidation of the long chain saturated fatty acid. Evidence will also be presented which indicates that one of the reaction products is a long chain fatty aldehyde.

Effects of seasonal variations on fatty acid content of muscle in Pampus argenteus caught from Persian Gulf

Since fish have large amounts of long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, they are considered a good source of food. In this study, fatty acid content and proximate composition of Silver Pomfret fish (Pampus argenteus) were investigated during winter and summer. For this purpose, the samples were collected from Bandar Lenge of Persian Gulf in 2016 and brought to the laboratory. The moisture, fat...

I-7: Fatty Acids and Male Reproductive Function

Background Background: The fatty acid composition of the sperm membrane changes drastically during spermatogenesis and may be key to its function. Previous data has shown that intake of long chain poly-unsaturated fatty acids can change the fatty acid composition of tissues, including testes and sperm. However, whether these changes in composition translate into changes in semen quality or male...

اثر منابع مختلف چربی بر انرژتیک و وضعیت اکسایش کاهش میتوکندری های جگر جوجه های گوشتی تحت شرایط تنش گرمایی بلندمدت

Heat stress has adverse effects on livestock production, hence reducing benefits of them. With the viewpoint of reducing heat production within cells,an experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of different sources of fat on mitochondrial energetics of broilers in chronic heat-stress condition. The consumed fat included: a)tallow; as a source of long-chain fatty acids, b)coconut oil;...

Fat Metabolism in Higher Plants: XL. Synthesis of Fatty Acids in the Initial Stage of Seed Germination.

To understand more fully organelle membrane assemblage, the synthesis of the first fatty acids by the germinating pea, Pisum sativum, was studied by the incorporation of either tritiated water or acetate-1-(14)C into lipids by the intact, initially dry seed. After a lag phase, labeling proceeded linearly. This lag phase ended when uptake of water had increased the seed weight to 185% of its ori...

پاسخ متفاوت سلولهای قلبی به اسیدهای چرب اشباع و غیر اشباع

Introduction & Objective: The link between dietary fat and coronary heart disease has attracted much attention since the effect of long?chain fatty acids (LCFA) on gene transcription has been established, which in part, these effects can be explained by the regulation of gene transcription. In this study, the P19CL6 cardiac cell?line was targeted for the investigation of (i) the effects of long...
